The Village, unpaginated.

From the 1940s until 1974 the poet and musician known as Moondog lived on the streets of New York City, especially the corner of 53rd Street and 6th Avenue. Blinded at the age of 16 in an accident, Moondog (known as "The Viking of Sixth Avenue" after his distinctive clothing) became a cult figure. He was embraced by Beat Generation poets, as well as the hippies, for his unconventional music and philosophical writings. Largely self-taught, he ultimately gained acceptance as a serious composer, releasing multiple recordings and performing regularly in Europe and America.
